I am pleased to share with you some very good news regarding a venture with St. Francis de Sales Seminary in Milwaukee. Our Tri-Parish Community has been chosen to serve as “Teaching Parishes” for a gentleman who will be preparing for the priesthood. The seminary has established this program to help the men who are studying to be priests get acquainted with all facets of parish life. I am happy to welcome Mr. Steven Weller to our parish communities. Steven is from the Diocese of La Crosse and will be starting his first year of theology. He will be with us the next four years learning the inner workings of the parishes as well as participating as much as he can in the life of our parishes. He will be taking classes at Sacred Heart Seminary and living in community with other seminarians at St. Francis de Sales Seminary. He will be at the parishes mostly on Sundays. The seminary has made it very clear to me that his academics come first. At the end of his third year he will be ordained a deacon and will serve our parishes for that following summer ministering at our parishes by preaching and presiding at weddings and baptisms. At the end of his fourth year Steven will be ordained a priest and be assigned to a parish in the La Crosse Diocese. There will be much more information coming from Steven himself in the coming weeks after he arrives. This is a great honor for our parishes and one that I hope will call forth vocations from our own communities.
God bless you always!
Fr. Jim Volkert
